The NZ P2P Crypto Marketplace Discord server was established in April 2021 by Harry Satoshi to make it easier for Kiwis to discover and communicate with person-to-person (P2P) crypto buyers and sellers across NZ. We originated from the Buy & Sell Cryptocurrency NZ Facebook group and migrated to Discord for improved functionality and localization.

Serious scam warning - read before you join
P2P and Discord is a High scam risk. Scammers are extremely common in P2P environments. This is the default experience, especially for new members. It is critical you understand the mechanics of P2P, scams and the servers rules - if you skip that, you are entering a high-risk environment without adequate preparation. Impersonation is routine. Scammers pose as admins, moderators, or well-known members - including lookalike names and avatars - and cold-message new joiners with fake verification, fake "support", or urgent trades. Treat every unsolicited DM as a potential scam attempt until verified otherwise. This marketplace is for experienced users who already know how to verify identities, spot pressure tactics, and refuse unsafe encounters.
What is P2P Cryptocurrency Trading?
Peer-to-peer (P2P) trading means buying or selling cryptocurrency directly with another person, with no third party in the middle to execute or settle the trade on your behalf. There are thousands of P2P traders in New Zealand. It is the most direct kind of crypto trading: you carry more responsibility for safety and process yourself. That same directness brings its own hazards - scam risk chief among them - because no institution is vouching for the counterparty or the flow of funds. Both traders are solely responsible for successful trade execution. Reputation and resolute best practice is fundamental to P2P. A P2P crypto trader is anyone who mainly buys and sells with other individuals, rather than treating a New Zealand exchange or retail broker as the default path for every trade.

High scam risk
Scammers are extremely common in P2P environments. They are rampant, frequently posing as existing reputable members and admins such as Aoraki_RangerNZ.
Physical Risk
A bad actor can potentially '$5 wrench attack' you and strong-arm your cash from you. This risk exists and has been reported in P2P trading contexts globally. Be extremely aware of the physical risks of meeting a dodgy trader.
Financial Risk
Bank transfers can be reversed, leaving you short changed after you've already sent crypto to the scammer. Identity documents can be faked, fabricated, stolen, bought or sold.
AI & Technology Risks
Be aware of AI text-to-speech technology when conducting voice calls. Scammers are using increasingly sophisticated technology to impersonate legitimate traders.
